2) Venue : E6-2, Rm#2502
3) Speaker : Prof. Yaroslav Tserkovnyak (Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of California, Los Angeles, CA)
4) Talk Title  :  Novel transport phenomena in insulators
5) Abstract
   - This talk builds on the topological conservation laws, which engender unconventional transport processes in solid state, both classical and quantum. Drawing on several illustrative cases that include spin superfluidity and vortex hydrodynamics, we will pursue a general construction based on real-space topology, symmetries, and thermodynamic reciprocities. I will discuss the prospects of exhibiting this physics using standard electronic and spintronic tools and tailoring nontrivial geometries to control symmetries. Beyond new generic transport and imaging probes of correlated materials, both conventional and exotic, potential applications include energy storage and neuromorphic functionalities. Several connections to other fields will be made (and exploited), with a focus on topology and geometry, in both classical and quantum settings.
