Title: Interplay of Strong Correlations, Topology, and Disorder in 2D Quantum Matters

Abstract:

The physics of fractionalized quantum phases can be further enriched by band topology and spatial disorders. This talk will focus on our two recent works involving strongly correlated models with microscopic [1] and mesoscopic [2] spatial disorders, respectively.
In the first part of the talk, I will discuss the fate of 2D topological amorphous systems in the presence of strong on-site repulsive interactions [1]. I will consider an electronic two-orbital model with tunable topology in a 2D amorphous network. Using a parton-based mean-field approach, I will obtain the interacting phase diagram, featuring fractionalized amorphous phases with non-trivial topological properties.
In the second part, I will address non-trivial transport properties across a bandwidth-tuned metal-insulator transition in moiré TMD materials in the presence of mesoscale disorders [2]. To study the effect of disorders, I will construct a random resistor network model based on the theory of a continuous Mott transition at fixed filling of one electron per unit cell in the clean limit. The numerical results will be placed in the context of recent experiments.
