* Abstract
Layered van der Waals (vdW) materials often exhibit complex electronic phases such as metal, insulator, and superconductor phases, depending on temperature, pressure, and doping. Moreover, when thinning down to monolayer (ML), layered vdW materials exhibit novel electronic phases distinct from their bulk due to the absence of interlayer coupling and the resulting electronic structure and symmetry changes. In this talk, I will present our recent studies on the transition metal dichalcogenides, combining molecular beam epitaxial (MBE) sample growth with layer-by-layer control of thickness and in-situ angle-resolved photoemission (ARPES) characterization.
