Title: Probing the Origin of Cosmic Infrared Background and Future Prospects with SPHEREx

Speaker: Dr. Woong-Seob Jeong (Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute)
Date: Nov. 10(Thu), 4pm

Place : E6-2. 1st fl. #1323

Abstract:

The unknown excess mission in the infrared background is thought to be related to the epoch of reionization in early Universe or more recent activities from galaxy evolution. Due to its very faint brightness, it can be observed only in space. Many infrared space missions have been tried to uncover the origin of the Cosmic Infrared Background (CIB) through the measurement of its absolute brightness and its fluctuation in various spatial scales as well as wavelength domains. Since high throughput for diffuse object is achievable even with a small space telescope, the space observations of CIB have been tried through Korean space programs, such as the infrared wide-field imager MIRIS (2013) and the infrared imaging spectroscopic surveyor NISS (2019). Based upon these heritages, I am participating in the NASA MIDEX mission, the first all-sky infrared spectro-photometric surveyor SPHEREx (Spectro- Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionization, and Ices Explorer) from 2019.

Here, I overview my developments for infrared space missions and extragalactic science cases addressed with SPHEREx data sets, together with existent other multi-wavelength/space data.
