The Laboratory for Ultracold Quantum Matter & Light at IQC Waterloo invites applicants for a graduate research position and a postdoctoral position in experimental / theoretical atomic molecular optics (AMO), quantum information science, and nanophotonics. The applicant will work at the interface between AMO physics, condensed-matter physics, and quantum information science, investigating emergent quantum behaviors with strongly interacting Rydberg quantum gases and photons.

Ultracold Rydberg polaritons
Trapped atoms in photonic crystals (nanofabrication and cold atom physics)
2. Theoretical projects:
Cold atom physics, Rydberg atoms
Quantum phase transitions, critical scaling behavior, and non-equilibrium open-system dynamics of entanglement in quantum many-body systems.
Computational nanophotonics

Candidates with strong background in experimental AMO physics are encouraged to apply for the prestigious NSERC Vanier Scholarship (both Canadian and International students), NSERC CGS Scholarship, and Mike & Ophelia Lazaridis Fellowship.
 
Postdoctoral scholar programs: See Advertisement
Two postdoctoral and visiting scholar positions are available for conducting cutting edge research on atomic physics, quantum many-body physics, and quantum information science. Important qualifications include a Ph.D or equivalent degree in AMO physics, and excellence of research in quantum optics, laser spectroscopy, optical metrology, cold atom physics, or quantum information science. Experience with nanofabrication is also useful. 
    An ideal candidate should have the potential to develop new quantum applications and theoretical frameworks, or to actively implement these ideas in laboratory experiments and engineered systems at an internationally competitive level (strong background in experimental quantum optics, ultracold atoms, or nanophotonics is preferred).
