이번 세미나에서는 초평탄표면물리(flat-surface physics), 기판공학 (substrate engineering)과 산화 물리 및 공학(oxidation physics and engineering)에 대해 소개한다. 전세계적으로 아직 발달되지 않은 개념 및 영역들이지만 금속 박막의 표면을 원자층 수준으로 조절하였을 때 나타나는 다양한 새로운 물성, 물질의 기판을 조절하여 목표하는 물질을 완벽한 단결정으로 성장하는 기판공학, 그리고 산화성 금속의 산화가 왜 일어나는 지에서부터 산화를 원천 차단하는 방법과 강제로 산화를 벡터량처럼 제어하는 방법 까지를 소개할 것이다. 산화가 잘 제어된 단결정구리 박막에서 구현되는 빨주노초파남보의 색을 포함하여 회색에서 검정색까지의 무채색 표면에 대한 흥미로운 광학적, 구조적 특성도 소개한다. 뿐 만 아니라 이중의 heteroepitaxial process 임에도 단원자층의 평탄면(mono-atom stepped flat surface)를 보장하는 메타모르픽성장(meta morphic growth)의 막강한 장점을 소개한다.
