5. Abstract
   -  필름의 결정성이 기판물질의 격자에 크게 의존하고 전자의 운동은 많은 결정립계(grain boundary)에 의해 스크리닝 되기 때문에 우리가 알고 있던 금속 박막에서의 전자 수송을 포함한 여러 물리적 특성이 진정한 물성인지 한번쯤 다시 생각해 봄직하다.  ASE(Atomic Sputter Epitaxy)는 가려진 물리적 특성들을 밝혀내기 위한 첫걸음에 가깝다. 박막을 성장하는 일에서 원자를 하나 하나 기판위에 증착한다는 것은 너무나 당연한 일이지만 박막이 폴리결정으로 자라는 이유는 당연하다고 알고 있던 지식이 현실에서는 지켜지지 않기 때문이다. 박막을 단결정으로 성장한다는 것은 결정립계가 없어야 하는 것과 동시에 결정의 표면도 평탄할 것을 기대하게 한다. 현재까지 보고된 금속 박막의 표면 거칠기의 최고 기록은 1.5 nm 정도라 할 수 있다. 이 정도의 거칠기는 초평탄표면에 해당하지만 원자층으로 따지면 약 6층이기 때문에 전자들을 산란시키기에 충분하다. 박막의 표면이 원자 한층 수준이면 전자는 산란되지 않고 반사된다. 이러한 박막을 구현한다면 우리는 많은 새로운 물리적 현상을 볼 수 있다.  

  이번 세미나에서는 초평탄표면물리(flat-surface physics), 기판공학 (substrate engineering)과 산화 물리 및 공학(oxidation physics and engineering)에 대해 소개한다. 전세계적으로 아직 발달되지 않은 개념 및 영역들이지만 금속 박막의 표면을 원자층 수준으로 조절하였을 때 나타나는 다양한 새로운 물성, 물질의 기판을 조절하여 목표하는 물질을 완벽한 단결정으로 성장하는 기판공학, 그리고 산화성 금속의 산화가 왜 일어나는 지에서부터 산화를 원천 차단하는 방법과 강제로 산화를 벡터량처럼 제어하는 방법 까지를 소개할 것이다. 산화가 잘 제어된 단결정구리 박막에서 구현되는 빨주노초파남보의 색을 포함하여 회색에서 검정색까지의 무채색 표면에 대한 흥미로운 광학적, 구조적 특성도 소개한다. 뿐 만 아니라 이중의 heteroepitaxial process 임에도 단원자층의 평탄면(mono-atom stepped flat surface)를 보장하는 메타모르픽성장(meta morphic growth)의 막강한 장점을 소개한다.
